Bolivian Bondage

For eleven months now an American man from Borough Park, Brooklyn, has been in Palmasola prison. Jacob Ostreicher, a 53 year old father of five and grandfather of 11, was arrested in June 2011 on suspicion of money laundering. Unlike in the United States, where one is innocent until proven guilty, the Bolivian prosecutor claims that Ostreicher was jailed because he failed to prove the money Ostreicher used for a land deal was obtained legally. The Bolivian government cannot prove that it was illegal, and after more than 25 hearings, no evidence can be found, nor has any been delivered to the court.

Only Israel Can Make Peace

At some point, the public that cares, but is not invested–namely non-Jews or non-Christian Zionists who just see Israel as a democracy where disorder is common, will just get bored or worn on the subject.Some claim that the endless nature of these difficult cycles calls for a different approach by the parties, yet few really expect anything different from the Arabs. Look at the world today; most of the Arab world operates as if it is still in the Dark Ages. It maintains laws that most Westerners deem antiquated, treats women as chattel and keeps the masses uneducated and desperate. There are only Palestinian refugees because their leadership has consistently refused to allow anyone to build up and move in order to maintain the status of poverty and pain for anti-Israel positioning purposes.

The facts almost no longer matter, as churches and civil rights activists from coast to coast organize “hoodie” days and marches to show solidarity and empathy for young Trayvon Martin. If Zimmerman did indeed shoot the teenager for racist or other malicious reasons, when the truth is finally known, he will be properly vilified and sentenced. If, however, the facts prove that he at the very least acted in accordance with Florida’s probably well intentioned, but poorly planned, “stand your ground” Statute 776.013 (3), Mr. Zimmerman will find himself even more vilified by an even angrier public that cannot understand how a hoodie and a pack of Skittles posed a mortal threat to a seemingly large man at 250 pounds, in comparison to the 140 pound young man.

One thing is sure. If Blankfein were a crisis communications client of mine, I might advise him to soften his image a bit. It may have made the difference between the Times op-ed running or not. Here’s a true story that might set a different tone. In the gym where he works out, Blankfein was sitting clothed in little else than his towel reading a newspaper. Another gym rat, riled up about some financial news ran toward him ranting and yelling, “do they know who I am?” – apparently having something to do with the news he thought Blankfein was reading. The two men did not know one another, yet angry guy persisted to explain himself to Blankfein saying, “do you know who the (expletive) I am?”

While the war against the Syrian people rages on, Iran’s fingerprints were found in some failed attempts to kill Israeli diplomats around the world; in India, Thailand and Georgia. Although they deny it, the Iranian plot was exposed when the terrorists were caught in Thailand with Iranian passports in hand. That one blew his leg off trying to lob a grenade at Thai police only proves incompetence, not detachment.
